Waipukurau man Lance Perry - a keen cyclist and motorcyclist and an avid hunter - is being mourned by his family and friends this week after he was involved in a fatal crash just before dawn on Monday.
Lance, 60, was riding his motorcycle south on State Highway 2 out of Waipukurau.
He was on his way to work at Silver Fern Farms in Takapau, a journey he d been making for the past 20 years, when he was involved in a collision with a ute at the intersection of Maharakeke Rd.

caltrans a neutral location where they had been negotiating all day to announce that bart had no further offers for them. as a result they walked out today and said they would simply wait on bart to make another proposal. bart came out a short time later and said they had no plans to extend an additional proposal. that means that there are just about 2 hours left before the contract expires and a strike is in and out eminent. we actually saw workers unloading signs from their cars, picket signs. that is an indication that a strike certainly could be eminent in the next couple of hours. again, the sticking points remain the same. bart said it was only willing to offer workers about an 8% raise over four years as opposed to the 21.5% raise over three years bart workers were asking for. it was also asking for them to funnel money into their pensions which they don t currently do and pay more for health benefits. so again talks breaking down this evening at 8:45. neither side tal
mediator. union official streamed into the offices at 3:30 this afternoon. they are not meeting face-to- face as far as we know. mediators are, instead, passing proposals back and forth as talks wear on. as of now the major sticking point remains salary. b.a.r.t is offering workers an 8% pay raise. the unions want one closer to 23% over three years. we are very far apart. very far apart. we are coming to meet because we never give up. we were at the table for 1 1/2 days. and the district never showed up during that day 1/2. we are still that far apart. should be at the table ever minute. we doubled the salary increase. doubled it. 4% to 8%. that is serious movement on our part. and i can only hope that they come and meet us a little more. that is what a negotiation is. of course, b.a.r.t s 400,000 weekday riders are wondering what it all means for their commute. they have a plan, they say station parking will be open and offering limited round trip bus charter service
