mediator. union official streamed into the offices at 3:30 this afternoon. they are not meeting face-to- face as far as we know. mediators are, instead, passing proposals back and forth as talks wear on. as of now the major sticking point remains salary. b.a.r.t is offering workers an 8% pay raise. the unions want one closer to 23% over three years. >> we are very far apart. >> very far apart. we are coming to meet because we never give up. we were at the table for 1 1/2 days. and the district never showed up during that day 1/2. we are still that far apart. should be at the table ever minute. >> we doubled the salary increase. doubled it. 4% to 8%. that is serious movement on our part. and i can only hope that they come and meet us a little more. that is what a negotiation is. >> of course, b.a.r.t's 400,000 weekday riders are wondering what it all means for their commute. they have a plan, they say station parking will be open and offering limited round trip bus charter service. but that will only handle a couple thousand commuters. in the meantime, b.a.r.t officials telling us they are prepared to stay here all night. we just watched a pizza go in there. >> now, i want to talk about something i read. a b.a.r.t spokesperson says this might not be the best last offer. it makes you wonder, what are they waiting for? >> b.a.r.t officials spoke to us a couple minutes ago and they are waiting for movement from the union. they said, as you heard, the spokesperson said they doubled the offer. it is a tpheg oerb skpwraeugz they want to feel movement from the other side. >> -- this is a negotiation and they want to feel movement from the other side. >> developing moves. management is reporting slight progress. kpix's don knap pp is in oakland. what do you have?
