Morris County service providers are looking for new ways to tackle the disproportionate effects of homelessness and poverty in its Black and Latino populations.
Black and Latino individuals stay homeless longer than their white counterparts and are more likely to live in poverty, shows a review of the county s racial equity data.
Morris County s Community Assistance Services Committee launched its Racial Equity Task Force last spring to fix the issue. We can tell whether your odds of being homeless at some point in your life are higher, based on your race and ethnicity as opposed to an indicator like poverty for socio-economic status, said Racial Equity Task Force leader Lana Ubinski.
