Eight people were reportedly injured and taken to the hospital after a fire broke out Sunday evening at the high-rise Parkview Place Apartments in Detroit.
Lamont Shirley, who was visiting his mother at the apartment complex, near Chene and Robert Bradby Drive (north of Lafayette), helped to rescue a resident, according to WJBK-TV (Channel 2). Shirley told Fox 2 Detroit he rushed to the unit on fire, kicked in the door and pulled a man out.
Fire officials are investigating the cause.

DETROIT A fire that was contained in one unit of a large Detroit apartment building has sent eight people to the hospital, with three of the victims being listed in critical condition. According to Fox 2 Detroit, a man who was in the apartment where the fire happened suffered burns on 90% of his body.
The man was saved by another man who was visiting his mother at an apartment on the same floor. Lamont Shirley said he heard the fire alarm go off and decided to go look for where the fire was coming from. He said he checked some of the apartments before finding the one where the fire started. He said he kicked the door in and pulled the 67-year-old man to safety.
