Students of
Bayero University, Kano, on Monday, held a protest following the report of the killing of a student at its new campus.
But the university’s spokesperson, Lamara Garba, in a statement on the development, said the person killed was not a student but a visitor.
Following news of the killing on social media, some students of the university staged a protest over insecurity in the school, calling on the university authorities to protect students.
The protesters marched within the campus with placards inscribed with different messages such as: “Our girls are not secure,” “Na person we dey alive dey rewrite carry over” and “Use your sense, we need security in BUK.”

The Bayero University Kano has established COVID-19 protocol enforcement marshals, as part of measures to monitor, and ensure total compliance of the coronavirus protocols in the school.
The university management explained that the establishment of COVID-19 protocol enforcement marshals was a surveillance mechanism to ensure compliance to preventive measures.
The university management also vowed to sanction anyone caught violating the compliance order.
This was contained in a statement on Monday by the varsity’s Secretary, Information and Publication Division, Lamara Garba, on behalf of the university registrar.
The statement added that the university management had provided enough motorised handwashing machines and hand sanitisers at strategic locations within the academic, administrative and hostel areas for use.

As schools on Monday resumed in Kano State, Bayero University Kano says it has set up a Covid-19 Protocol Enforcement Marshals as part of measures to ensure total enforcement and compliance to avert the spread of the disease in the institution.
This was as the university authorities vowed to sanctioned anyone caught violating the compliance order.
