After taking charge as environment and forest minister, Eshwar Khandre on May 31 visited Bellandur Lake and assured that the lake would be restored by 2024.
Residents and shopkeepers living in the vicinity of the lake say that earlier not only the area falling within the boundary of the lake was green but there were enough trees outside the boundary as well.
Located in Hoodi, the 25 acre Seetharampalya lake was rejuvenated in 2015 by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) with the help of a private company.
In a first, scientists at the IISc created an integrated wetland at the lake. Treated water from a sewage treatment plant enters this wetland before emptying into the lake. This purifies the water further.
