a bag of chips. all of a sudden we heard someone holler tornado and i looked to the front window and all the insulation picked up and blew off. reporter: the tornado sent to tampa affiliate wfts mixed with stormy winds, sweeping across central and southern florida. we have this building down here that got tore down. it was crazy. reporter: in tampa the storm blew over this tractor-trailer, crushing two cars. amazingly, no one was hurt. in southern florida fallen tree limbs blocked roads and crunched cars like soda cans. i mean, they just kept falling. reporter: heavy rains left drivers rolling through knee-high water. the rain was blowing sideways. streets were flooded. it was just uh i would say pretty intense. reporter: the wind swept south to dade county, leaving a wake of felled tree limbs and damaged cars. thank heavens nobody was in the car and nobody got hurt. that s the main thing. reporter: at the lakeland airport, high winds flipped vintage biplanes in
large line of weather rolled through and then over winter haven. this was a very fast-moving storm. we talked about tornados, but we also talk about how the winds could be 70 miles per hour. and that will knock down things. and it appears that there was a hangar issues. one of the hangars may have come down on some people, here and there is the picture right to of the lakeland airport. i have no idea what building we re talking about, but that s what the airport looks like in lakeland, florida, with 70 people trapped, fire and rescue on the way to try to get those people out of that collapsed building. i assume probably one of those kwanzaa hut type things or the steel buildings. the wind starts blowing. the steel building may have come down on people. we have crews on the way. and so at that lakeland airport, a apparent leaves the and fun aviation fair that brought all of these people there. fingers crossed and hopefully that everybody is okay and
mexico about two hours ago, hour and a half ago. taken rolled with a tornado on the ground very close to largo, florida. there is the peninsula here. this is the peninsula of tampa and there is mcdill air force base. there is the other side of the causeway and all the way down to the sunshine bridge, right to. as this storm went over to largo and then it got back into the water very close to the bridge and south and i think that it was just south of tampa on the ground north of mcdill and then near brandon and now we know that this is still, that cell right there, fred is still rotating. wow. that s been a hundred miles, possibly that this thing has been skipping along, and at one point either the tornado or a straight-lined wind knocked down this hangar with people in it at the lakeland airport and 70 people, at least for a time, were trapped. we have crews trying to scramble out that way but you understand that trees are in the way power lines are down in some spots, and also e
