Feb 22, 2021 8:54 PM By: Leith Dunick THUNDER BAY St. James Public School will be immediately transitioning to virtual learning after a new case of COVID-19 was detected at the school and was deemed to have been acquired within the school setting. Single cases at three other facilities on Monday, including Woodcrest Public School, Ecole Gron Morgan Public School and the Lakehead Adult Education Centre located at Victoria Park. The pause of in-class learning at St. James Public School will be in place for at least a week, starting on Tuesday.

Keene said rising case numbers within the community also factored into the decision to have those two schools operate virtually. The board consulted with Thunder Bay District medical officer of health Dr. Janet DeMille, Keene added, who supported shifting those schools to virtual learning but indicated it wasn t necessary to do that for all schools. Keene said the transition to virtual learning for Westgate is relatively easy because high schools are already operating online for half the day. On Wednesday, February 17th, hundreds of classrooms, and thousands of Lakehead Public Schools students connected virtually with community members who shared their personal love of reading and read a story written by a Canadian author to the students board wide. Throughout the day, students continued to read together and followed up with several fun and engaging activities to share their love of reading.

COVID Connected To Valley Central School

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting two coronavirus cases associated with Valley Central Public School. Health officials believe at this time, there is no evidence that the virus has spread in the school setting and is not considered an outbreak.
