5 Polk County Schools superintendent finalists are in town for interviews

The next superintendent s three-year contract will have a start date of July 1, 2021, with a transition period in May and June. The salary ranges from $215,000 to $275,000, plus competitive benefits.  The candidates’ schedules this week will consist of interviews with the full board on either Wednesday or Thursday. When not being interviewed, candidates will be given a tour of the county and several schools, along with breakfasts, lunches and dinners with School Board members and prominent Polk County residents.  The candidates scheduled to be interviewed on Wednesday, April 21 are:  Harold R. Border, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.  James P. McIntyre, 10:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

More than 90,000 people have registered for vaccinations through Polk County s online portal, and about 28,000 have been assigned appointments, Riley said. Her office estimates that 15,000 on the list either received prior vaccination elsewhere or are duplicates. That leaves a projected balance of 47,300 awaiting appointments for vaccinations, Riley said. Polk County now ranks 14th among Florida’s 67 counties for the number of vaccinations. Polk, which is ninth in population, ranked 20th in the first weeks of the statewide vaccine program. More than 3.4 million vaccine doses had been administered in Florida through Sunday, the state agency reported, with more than 2.3 million people vaccinated. Those figures included injections given at events overseen by the Department of Health and through a partnership with private pharmacies.
