LEESBURG Nearly 234,00 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines in Lake and Sumter counties, based on Monday’s county update from the Florida Department of Health.
Of the 233,824 who have received a dose of the Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine in Lake and Sumter counties since the state began its vaccination program in December, 153,220 were in Lake and 80,604 were in Sumter.
All told, 168,300 of those vaccinated, including 102,889 in Lake and 65,411 in Sumter, completed the two-shot series Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, or the single dose vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson through Sunday – the latest information contained in Monday’s update. The majority – 97,041 in Lake County and 61,425 in Sumter – received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.
State officials announced recently the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will no longer be used until researchers further investigate a possible link between the shot and potentially deadly blood clots.
They are among more than 5 million people statewide - 5,080,273 - who have completed one of the three series of vaccinations. Over 8 million people in Florida - 8,016,441 - have received at least one dose of the vaccines.
In Lake County, 311 vaccines were administered Saturday, based on the DOH s initial figures for that day. Of the total, 152 doses were the first of the two-shot series, with the remaining 159 completing either of the two-shot series.

Where can I get vaccinated?
First and second dose vaccinations are being administered at Lake Square Mall in Leesburg.
The DOH-Lake Community Health Site, 560 W. DeSoto Street in Clermont, and the DOH-Lake Umatilla Site, 249 E. Collins Street, are both offering first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine. No appointment is necessary.
The Global Medical Response site in Wildwood is located at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 4930 County Road 134B.

And the Umatilla site is open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
The Lake Square Mall site is still taking appointments, but starting Monday, the location will also begin accepting walk-in appointments. Walk-ins are welcome between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The site will be closed on Saturday, April 24.

All told, 157,914 of those vaccinated, including 95,488 in Lake and 62,426 in Sumter, completed the two-shot series Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, or the single dose vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson through Wednesday – the latest information contained in Thursday’s update. The majority – 89,668 in Lake County and 58,445 in Sumter – received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.
