The counting took place on Sunday for the first key election in Kargil after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, and the creation of the Ladakh Union territory. Omar said that development and religion were non-issues in the Kargil elections and voting was held as a referendum against the decision of the Union Government to bifurcate the erstwhile state of J&K and the abrogation of Article 370.
"The national media of course will blank it out, but trends coming in show Congress leading convincingly in the elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil with an almost complete wipeout of the BJP. Despite announcing to enter into an alliance to stop the BJP, local leaders of the National Conference and Congress are trying to lure Independents to take their support after the results.
