With the full dna. You are saying that california can take that dna, hold it in only look atand the john dna, but they have it in their custody, and there is a marylandecause versus king. By law, california can only look at discrete portions of identification dna. That is it, nothing else. Whats wrong with the proposal by ms. Haskell recognizing what king does restrict, to simply say go to the Supreme Court decision, it talks about a valid arrest supported by probable cause. Says we cancouncil draw the line with a judicial determination of probable cause and therefore am a free reign under the california statute. What is wrong with that line in terms of did interpreting how king applies to this case . Nothat interpretation would be consistent with king, which recognizes that the identification information am a whether it is fingerprints, photographs, or dna, informs the charging decision. Scalia role does justice how would this respond to . Udge mcewens for whatever reason, they got it
I also wanted to acknowledge ms. Newhouse whos in the audience from silver spring, maryland. Attended my alma mater. Shes also a bilateral and beauty and wears prosthetic legs. Shes traveled to over 40 countries for work and study abroad for individuals with disability. Nice to have you here. Mr. Chairman, i guess to general thornburgh, or to secretary ridge, ill give you the chance to respond to this. We all acknowledge that the treaty is based upon basically the u. S. Law, the ada. We passed that in 1990. I remember in 1991, congressman hoyer who was then chairman of u. S. Helsinki commission traveled to moscow and became part of the moscow declaration document, which started the International Effort to use u. S. Law as the model to protect universal university the rights of people with disabilities. So the United States has been leadership. The point i would raise, that failed to ratify i think compromises the u. S. Ability to advance these standards globally. It weakens our own cre
Challenges, facing us today in this very different world. He said, americas leadership and prestige depend not merely upon our unmatched material progress, riches, and military strength, but on how we use our power in the interest of world peace and human betterment. Throughout americas adventure in free government, such basic purposes had been to keep the peace, to foster progress in human achievement, and to enhance liberty, dignity, and integrity among peoples and among nations. To strive for less would be unworthy of a free and religious people. Very, very wise words. Now, the challenges that face our world, our nation, and all of its institutions are great, so is our unprecedented capacity to deal with those problems. Never in the history of man has a nation possessed a world possessed so much capacity to deal with these problems. We must not fear change, but rather embrace it. To vive for less would be unworthy of our character and our purpose, and we would fail future generation
So just earlier this week i was out at dyke marsh. Its near alexandria right along the mount vernon trail, and its a beautiful natural area that has been eroding dramatically since dredging activities happened some decades ago. I was announcing that we would be rebuilding a lot of that wetland by putting in some containment things to bring back the natural marshes, but most importantly, there were two School Groups out there, young kids representing all the colors of the rainbow and all the enthusiasm that only Young Children can have, telling me about the ph and the water quality. And out there with their instructors. These are the best classrooms. And when youve got kids in particular that are bouncing off the walls i could ask for a show of hands about how many of you have them, because im sure its a lot how about putting them in a classroom that has no walls . Thats what we can do. Third, were setting a goal of engaging one million volunteers in support of public lands by with 2016
Present, quickly pledged to support these local efforts in order to ensure full recovery. He created the Hurricane Sandy rebuilding task force to maximize cabinet level ordination in support of the work to rebuild this region. Ive been enormously proud to share this effort as we work to achieve two basic goals. One, to get the assistance you all thought so hard to make a reality to communities as quickly as possible, to meet the immediate needs and second to ensure the region rebuild stronger and smarter than before so its better equipped for future storms. Quickly and effectively. As you know, in january, working with all of you in the congress, state leaders fought tirelessly to get 50 billion in funding inlemental order to aid victims of the storm. Its been a priority to get these dollars into communities quickly and responsibly as possible. Thats why we thought it was critical to include several the supplemental that facilitated more efficient spending of these dollars. I want to p
