COVID-19 enforcement teams of Mangaluru City Corporation continued their work on the second day on Wednesday and collected a fine of ₹61,150 from motorists and 58 shop owners who failed to comply with safety and lockdown norms. Trade licence of seven shops and business establishments were temporarily suspended.
A team comprising Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Santosh Kumar and Senior Health Inspector Shivalinga K. started inspection from Lady Hill Circle in the city where they closed down a photo copying outlet that was doing business. They visited Urwa Market where they fined those not wearing masks, which included ₹2,500 from a person manning the counter of a liquor outlet.

Many a problem related to exorbitant billing can be avoided, says Opposition
Taking the ruling BJP to task for laxity in issuing water bills, the Opposition Congress in the Mangaluru City Corporation Council on Friday urged the corporation to ensure that consumers are issued monthly bills.
Leader of the Opposition Abdul Ravoof and the former Mayor and now a Congress member M. Shashidhar Hegde said that if the civic body issued monthly bills many a problem related to exorbitant billing can be avoided.

Over 50 cyclists, from four-and-a-half year old Samyuktha to 62-year-old Joseph Pereira, joined hands with Mangaluru City Police to create awareness against drug abuse here on Sunday.
Team WeRCycling, an association of professional riders, organised the rally to support the police in their initiative to spread the message against drug abuse.
The rally, which was flagged off at Mangala Stadium, passed through Lady Hill Circle, Lal Bagh, PVS Buildings, Bunts Hostel Circle, St. Agnes Institutions and M.G. Road before culminating at the start venue. Samyuktha, who rode confidently with WERC’s Harniish Raj, was the centre of attraction. A few cyclists, including Mr. Periera and Gururaj Krishnamurthy, joined the rally soon after completing their 400 km Mangaluru-Kumta-Mangaluru Brevet early in the morning.
