Washington, Oct 22 (PTI) China increased the deployment of forces and continued infrastructure build-up, including underground storage facilities near Doklam, a second bridge over Pangong Lake and a dual-purpose airport and multiple helipads, along the LAC in 2022 amid border tensions with India, a Pentagon report has said.

China’s Foreign Minister talks to Jaishankar over phone
The foreign ministers of India and China have agreed to establish a new hotline to ensure “timely communication” in the wake of last year s border crisis, but differed sharply on the way forward to restore relations in a 75-minute phone call on Thursday.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, “bilateral relations have been impacted severely over last year” and that while “the Boundary Question may take time to resolve”, the “disturbance of peace and tranquility, including by violence, will inevitably have a damaging impact on the relationship.”

Tens of thousands of troops on both sides are currently stationed in freezing temperatures around the region of Ladakh in a bitter standoff that has lasted for months. Tensions in the area flared last year after a clash between groups of Indian and Chinese troops left at least 20 soldiers dead in June.
