here in the old market, warehouses are turning into condos, shoppers are buying. and ron samuelsson s two restaurants are filling up for lunch. you ve made it through the recession, and is business good? business has been very good. i mean, we ve had our ups and downs. it hasn t been, you know, a cakewalk for the last couple of years. we try to concentrate on what we do well. right now, with all the building of the condos and all the real estate really being snatched up, at this point, you know, i just continue to see, you know, lots of growth. reporter: so what s their secret for riding out the recession? living within their means. we have a tendency to do things kind of crazy things like only spend money when we have money. for people in a place like nebraska or omaha, it s just common sense. i mean, it s not rocket science. and, you know, don, he said it s not rocket science to not spend more than you have. you ve also got a lot of local banks that all the business owner
campaign has gone along. and as i say, today has simply been a day to spend with their families, really. they ve been out to vote as has the rest of the general public, and if the the suggestions are because of the weather, at least, that the numbers of people out there voting today have been pretty good. now, lest we forget why, don, this election is important, let me explain. three main issues that the parties are very have very different ideas on, and that is the idea of election, policy on foreign affairs, and policy on the economy. don t forget, don, that the uk has a big black hole to the tune of $250 billion. the labour party want to do one thing with it, but if the conservatives get in, they ll do something else. they re looking to take $6 billion out of the public sector deficit very, very quickly and the international markets will be watching uk plc like hawks. any suggestion of a sort of inadequate or vaguely insecure
stephanie elam has been following this closely. what in the world is going on here? yeah, don, if you take a look at what s going on today, i know people are angry in greece. the greekme parliament passed se measures today, 172 votes for it, 121 votes against it. so that s probably why it took so long for them to get to a final vote this evening. the greek financial minister said the bailout is the only way to not go bankrupt. take a listen to some of the conditions. like salary cuts, they re talking about that for public sector workers, that includes lawmakers as well. they re going to say taxes on cigarettes, fuel, gambling all being raised. the retirement age for female public sector workers is going to go up as well. there s also going to be an increase in tax consumers pay on purchases and this is all on vausely making a lot of the people there very upset about
new pictures in from greece on the protests here. i m don lemon here at cnn world headquarters in atlanta, but on the street in athens is our reporter, diana magnay, who is there at one of the protests, got caught up in one of the riots. you can see, riot police in formation. diana magnay, you witnessed all of this. take us through the scene now. what did you see? reporter: okay, well, i m now seeing a line of riot police, in front of them protesters who are booing them. this is what they ve been doing all along in front of the parliament building, where this very unpopular package was going before parliamentarians. the protesters were shouting, thieves, thieves, burn down the parliament, chanting that kind of thing. i m now seeing a fire, probably set by a petrol bomb to my right. and a long way down the street the protesters holding up banners and the riot police moving down towards them. it s been said that people here in athens are very used to violent protests. this is quite nor
time tomorrow. what s different now is because at this dynamic with the liberal democrats and we don t really know what s going to happen. if one party doesn t get an out right win, labor conservatives don t win out right they may have to do with deal with the liberal democrats. i ve been out speaking with voters today, don. this is what people said they were going to do with their vote today. who has your vote? i m still undecided. i think it s going to be when i get in therend a look at my paper. holding my pencil over the box, i m going to know. what do you think this says about this election? i actually think it s going to be a hung parliament, the result. i think it might be a good thing. conservative. were you always going to vote con se tive? no. what changed your mind? it s gotten steadily worse under gordon brown. labor. all the way. you didn t feel tension towards the dems? no. i m sure we would have gotten cameron in and we don t need him. thank you.
