ACTON, MA A minor from Arizona is the leading suspect in the Acton Police Department s investigation into racist harassment that interrupted two Acton-Boxborough School Committee meetings in the last few weeks.
Acton police are working with a local Arizona police department on the investigation, Acton police said in a statement released Wednesday night.
The police department s investigation started Dec. 17. The department said the minor does not appear to have any connections to Acton or Boxborough, and is believed to have learned about the scheduled meetings online. Police did not release any more information about the suspect.
ACTON People in Acton and Boxborough are saying no to racism following a virtual school committee meeting in which an anonymous troll posted racist and vulgar comments deeply upsetting two Black board members.
About 90 minutes into a meeting of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee, the anonymous poster used the Q & A function to write the ugly remarks. The comments were only visible to committee members, including its only Black members, Kyra Wilson Cook and Evelyn Abayaah, but were later shared on social media, sparking outrage in the community and leading the Acton Board of Selectmen to hold an emergency meeting the following day, denouncing the incident and calling for a hate crime investigation.
