Three of the accused in police custody
Rajkot: Acting on a kidnapping and extortion complaint lodged by a farmer of Faddang village, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Rajkot city police on Wednesday arrested four persons, including a minor boy.
Those arrested were identified as Shivraj Vala (19), Gaurava Hirani (21), Lalji Rank (21), and a minor boy. Hirani and Rank are residents of Bagasara town of Amreli while Vala is a native of Faddang village and lives in Surat.
“On July 3, Vala and his associates kidnapped Khunt from his village and demanded Rs 15 lakh while threatening to kill him. Scared by the revolver that was pointed towards him, Kunth paid Rs 3.85 lakh to the accused. Later, he approached the police and lodged a complaint,” police said.
Rajkot: A complaint of demanding protection money was filed by a farmer-cum-businessman Mohan Dholaria in was Thangadh town of Surendranagar district. In his complaint lodged against Kanu Karpada, a notorious criminal of the town, the 65-year-old resident of Kuvadava told the Kuvadava Road police station officials that Karpada had sought the money to let the former run his agro business in Kuvadava.
“Karpada had been threatening Dholaria and his son for the past few weeks demanding protection money to run a shop in Kuvadava. A few days ago, a scared Dholaria sent him Rs 3 lakh through angadia firm. Two days ago, the criminal again threatened Dholaria for Rs35,000 more and also sent his aide on a bullet to fetch the sum. Tired of the extortion, Dholaria approached the police and lodged a complaint against the accused on Thursday afternoon,” police said.

RAJKOT: The parole furlough squad of Rajkot police nabbed a kidnapper of a minor girl from Bhopal five years after they went missing. The girl was also found and brought back to Rajkot.
Police said that they had received information about the accused Bhupendra alias Danga Kohle hiding in Bhopal along with the 16-year-old girl. A team of cops reached Bhopal and brought the duo back to Rajkot.
“We had contacted the father of the accused who confirmed that his son was in Bhopal along with the girl ever since they eloped in 2016,” said a police official. After they eloped, the girl’s father lodged a complaint of abduction at Kuvadava Road police station as she was a minor.
