Excess water from the Kurichu dam in Bhutan has been released, and downstream areas of Assam have been put on alert for possible flooding. However, the situation is being closely monitored, and the water levels of four major downstream rivers are below the danger level. The Royal Government of Bhutan has informed Assam state of the release of excess water from the Kurichu hydropower plant and district administrations in downstream areas have been alerted. This year, seven people have been killed due to floods in Assam and over 41,000 people in ten districts currently remain affected.
All Assam districts bordering Bhutan are on high alert after the neighboring country informed the state government regarding its decision to release excess water from the Kurichhu hydropower dam on Friday.
