In response to a query raised in the Gujarat state assembly related to reviving North Gujarat’s Khari river, the state’s water resources and water supply minister, Kunvarji Bavaliya, stated that the government currently has not utilised any funds allocated for it.
Under the Mission, Gujarat has received Rs 255796.08 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 359016.32 lakh in 2022-23 and Rs 149142.50 lakh in 2023-24 (till December 31,2023) from the Centre.
A total of 30 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 24,707 crore were signed in Gandhinagar ahead of the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. The MoUs, mainly related to minerals, urban development, townships, chemicals, petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals, are expected to generate employment opportunities for over 38,000 youth across various sectors in Gujarat.
Speaking with The Indian Express, the Congress MLA alleged that Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL), a Gujarat government undertaking which controls the Narmada dam project, channelled more water towards Rajasthan, leading to a decrease in water availability for north Gujarat farmers.
