Quick turnaround: From May low of 10%, worforce bounces back to 70% | Noida News

Noida: After a difficult couple of months, industrial units in the city are back on their feet with about 70% workers returning to duty. Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), which has 180 active units, claims to be operating with 100% attendance and some companies have also had fresh recruitments. “After the first wave last year, there was a total lockdown. Many families in the villages were hit by Covid this year and workers came back to support them,” said Anil Kumar, regional manager, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC).

Workforce reduced to half, Noida NSEZ plans job portal to fill void | Noida News

NOIDA: The Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) is looking at a technological solution for its labour problem. It is planning to launch a job portal to fill up vacancies in its factories as the departure of hundreds of workers as well as the loss of many to Covid has reduced the workforce to nearly 50%. SEZ members claim that a low count of workers has badly affected the workflow, leading to a weeks of lag in deliveries of orders. While they are not sure if the migrant workers would return in time, it’s expected that the job portal will help announce vacancies and recruit replacements. The jobs which have the most openings are for fitters, assembly operators, technicians and store keepers.

Referred to as a ‘garment city’ in UP government’s MSME scheme of ‘one district, one product’, Noida has around 1,500 manufacturers, mostly exporters. While many have been trying to minimise Covid-induced losses, they claim to be now operating at 25% of production volumes vis-à-vis pre-pandemic. Many exporters now want to reduce dependence on foreign markets and start their own labels to service the domestic market.
