On Friday, Feb. 10 when work concludes at 3:30 p.m., the contractor will open all lanes through the roundabout. There will be two lanes open in each direction through the roundabout. The right turn lane in and out of Kūlanihākoʻi Street will be open.
The nonprofit Maui Nui Marine Resource Council is working in Hapapa watershed to remove sediment that has accumulated in Kūlanihākoʻi gulch before it reaches the ocean. The organization reports that the effort is part of its ongoing work to improve ocean water quality and prevent the smothering of coral in Māʻalaea Bay.
Preliminary data from the National Weather Service shows rainfall from Jan. 27-30 was measured at 23.61 inches at Puʻu Aliʻi, Molokaʻi, and from 5 to 15 inches over parts of Maui.
The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui until 10 a.m.; and issued a Flood Warning for Molokaʻi until 9:45 a.m.
The opening of the new Kūlanihāko‘i High School campus in Kīhei is delayed due to outstanding issues related to requirements for a grade-separated pedestrian crossing across the Pi‘ilani Highway to access the campus.
