The education Nation Student town hall. Education nation is now in its fourth year, and i am thrilled that for the second year in a row, we will be focused on what matters most to the students, the problems they face, and their ideas for how to solve them. Now, joining me on stage and in the audience today are students from across the country, ranging in age from about 13 to 25. And for the next two hours, we will hear from many of them. To help with that task, two of my colleagues are in the house. Working one side of the room is cohost of msnbcs the cycle. Krystal ball. Hi, krystal hey, melissa. Good morning. And over on the other side, msnbc anchor, mara schiavocampo. Hey, mara good morning, everyone. Now, theyre going to be coming around and taking questions and comments from our student audience throughout the show. And today, just this once, im going to let you guys do something that i never let my students do. You can use your phones in class. We want to know your reactions, you
Revenues will come from guess who . The rich. Maybe they need to learn a thing or two from president obama. This is a solvable problem. I do remain optimistic that we can get something done that is good for families. Its exactly one month since the president s resounding reelection, but if you thought the campaign was over, youd be wrong. In the fight over the fiscal cliff, the president is again reaching out to voters for their support. This afternoon a Northern Virginia family got a special visit after sharing their story about how a 2,200 tax increase would hurt them. And for the president , it was a chance to remind the public and congress that without a deal, taxes will go up for everyone at the end of the year. The message that i think we all want to send to members of congress is this is a solvable problem. The senate has already passed a bill that would make sure that middle class taxes do not go up next year by a single dime. Its very important that we get this done now, that
Who i have known and trusted for years, mr. Jeh johnson. There you have it, within the last hour in the sunny white house rose garden, president obama nominated jeh johnson to succeed janet napolitano. Its been credit d with keeping the country safe in the 12 plus years since then, but the agency has faced charges of waste and mismanagement throughout the years. He was a top pentagon lawyer during president obamas first term. Before that he was an assistant District Attorney right here in new york as well as an attorney in private practice. Johnson also oversaw the escalation of unmanned drone strikes and revamping of military commissions to try terror suspects o as opposed to civilian courts and involved in the dont ask dont tell policy against openly gay soldiers. President obama had nothing but praise for johnson. Hes respected across our government as a team player. Somebody who knows how to get folks who dont always agree to work towards a common goal. Hes also earned a reputation
Ted cruz, unafraid of kneecapping his colleagues. Official washington scoff. They scoff, they scoff. There is someone here a warm wednesday good afternoon to you. And on the 16th day, finally, weve got a deal. But hold your breath. Because its not over yet. With the u. S. Treasury running on fumes, just eight hours to go until a possible and catastrophic default, the race is on to get a bill through congress and to the president s desk before midnight. Just moments ago, Speaker John Boehner emerged from House Republicans afternoon huddle with a fist pump and no remarks. As he prepares to bring legislation to the floor to end the government impasse. Boehner did speak to an ohio Radio Station earlier. Well, listen, weve been locked in a fight over here, trying to bring government down to size, trying to do our best to stop obama care. Weve fought the good fight. We just didnt win. Yes, mr. Boehner. Thats because the house vote is set to be on a senate plan to reopen the government, and e
Multiple Standing Ovations from the rabid right where he continued his mythtelling campaign and the crowd loved it. We are facing extraordinary tletss to our nation. We are seeing an administration that seems bent on violating every constitutional protection we have in the bill of rights. An extraordinary threat . More of their trademark fear mongering on display. And despite poll numbers sinking like a stone, the gop hasnt learned anything over the past year. Take a look. Its the number one job killer in this country. Theres this big cloud hanging over Small Business right now. Its obama care. And its denying care to millions. Under obama care theyre cutting 716 billion from medicare. The way were going to stop obama care, its going to come from the American People. When we elect me president of the united states, were going to get rid of obama care. Memories. Were going to get rid of obama care. Howd that work out . Just like it was going to be his waterloo. Need more proof the antio
