The High Court adjourned the hearing on the restraint order issued by the State Election Commission (SEC) against Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani) to February 17.
The court suggested that it would appoint an amicus curiae on the aspects of hate speech, the power of courts etc. It appointed senior counsel P. Raghu Ram as the amicus curiae and requested him to make his submissions on the limits of freedom of speech and report whether the public statements being made are within the ambit of free speech and fair criticism.
The SEC made available all video and audio clippings of the Minister to the court while it was contested by him (the Minister) that all of them did not relate to the subject in question.
52.72 lakh children targeted for administration of polio drops in AP: Guv
Vijayawada, Jan 31 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said that around 52.72 lakh children, of less than five years age, are targeted for administering of polio drops in the state, as part of the drive to sustain polio eradication from the country.
He said that there has been not a single case of polio reported in the country since 2011.
The Governor launched the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme by administering polio drops to children aged below five years at a programme held in Raj Bhavan on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Harichandan said that Pulse Polio immunisation programme has been launched with an aim to eliminate poliomyelitis (polio) in the country by vaccinating all children under the age of five years and to fight against the polio virus in a large-scale and monitoring the poliomyelitis cases.
