The United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA), formed in the state in line with Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), on Wednesday announced that a state-wide bandh will be called the very next day of the contentious Act coming into force, followed by gherao of the Janata Bhawan (the secretariat) on next day.
The United Opposition Forum, a confederation of sixteen political parties, said if the CAA is implemented, it would launch a statewide bandh in protest against the Act.
Local organisations in Assam stage fresh demonstrations against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Civil society outfits and indigenous organisations fear that CAA would push more immigrants into the state, thereby creating a demographic imbalance.
