Malaysia imposes nationwide lockdown during 3rd wave of coronavirus

Malaysia’s prime minister has declared a nationwide lockdown from Wednesday until June 7 in an effort to contain the rise in coronavirus cases, state media Bernama News Agency reported.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the lockdown, known as the Movement Control Order or MCO, saying Malaysia is facing the third wave of the pandemic which can trigger a national crisis.
The prime minister added that Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have exceeded 4,000 as of Monday. There are 37,390 active coronavirus cases and the death toll stands at 1,700 as of May 10, he said.
New Zealand has suspended quarantine-free travel arrangements for flights from the Australian state of New South Wales due to a local outbreak of Covid-19 in its state capital, Sydney.
Pfizer/BioNTech to donate vaccine doses for Olympic athletes

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Pfizer/BioNTech will donate Covid-19 vaccine doses to Olympic athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games scheduled for July. As part of the plans to ensure safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE to donate doses of the companies’ COVID-19 vaccine to Games participants from National Olympic and Paralympic Committees around the world, the IOC said in a statement Thursday.

Indian official to attend G7 virtually after being exposed to Covid-19

As the G7 Foreign and Development Minister s Meeting kicks off in London on Wednesday, the Indian representative will only attend virtually after being exposed to possible Covid positive cases.
India s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said he was made aware of the possible exposure on Tuesday evening. As a measure of abundant caution and also out of consideration for others, I decided to conduct my engagements in the virtual mode. That will be the case with the G7 Meeting today as well, Jaishankar said in a tweet Wednesday.
