Chaitra Navratri 2021 is on until April 21, and part of the celebration is the observance of the Navratri fasts. Devotees abstain from eating non-vegetarian foods, smoking and drinking alcohol for nine days. Even in an all-vegetarian diet, certain vegetables, such as onion and garlic, and spices, are limited. Fasting devotees prepare their daily meals with
vrat ingredients such as
kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour), sabudana (tapioca pearls), fresh fruits,
sendha namak (rock salt), and
samak ke chaawal, as this fits with the Saatvik style of eating.
