At least 48 vehicles were involved in multiple crashes that injured dozens of people and closed I-41 in Washington County for hours on Wednesday as heavy snow showers moved through the region.
Six people were transported to local medical facilities with various degrees of injuries. Another 26 were evaluated and treated at the scene, according to a news release from Washington County.
The freeway was closed in both directions from Highway 60 to Highway 28, a roughly 18-mile stretch.
An initial crash occurred near Highway D in the Town of Wayne after 11 a.m. Two other chain reaction accidents were reported near Highway 144 and Cedar Creek Road in the Town of Polk, according to the Washington County Sheriff s Office.

Firefighters and ambulances from Allenton, Kohlsville, Kewaskum, West Bend, Richfield, Slinger, Jackson, Germantown and Hartford are all either at the scene or responding to the interstate, along with Wisconsin State Patrol troopers from Fond du Lac.
