Multiple crashes amid heavy snow showers have prompted the closure of I-41 in Washington County, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and emergency radio traffic.
Multiple injuries have been reported. The freeway is closed in both directions from Highway 60 to Highway 28 in Washington County, a roughly 18-mile stretch.
An initial crash occurred near Highway D in the Town of Wayne after 11 a.m. Two other "chain reaction accidents" were reported near Highway 144 and Cedar Creek Road in the Town of Polk, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
At least one tractor trailer was involved.
Firefighters and ambulances from Allenton, Kohlsville, Kewaskum, West Bend, Richfield, Slinger, Jackson, Germantown and Hartford are all either at the scene or responding to the interstate, along with Wisconsin State Patrol troopers from Fond du Lac.
