Residents, businesses decorate holiday trees through new program

Residents, businesses decorate holiday trees through new program Bruce Barton/Town Crier From left, Tim McClenahan and Art Carmichael of the Kiwanis Club of Los Altos deliver holiday trees for decorating Dec. 1 to Shannon Geary and Scott Hunter of the Los Altos Village Association. The city of Los Altos joined forces with the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and the Los Altos Village Association to sponsor a new holiday program, Trim a Tree @ Los Altos, encouraging businesses, community organizations and residents to adopt and decorate Christmas trees. The program placed 61 trees throughout three Los Altos business districts: downtown, Rancho Shopping Center and Loyola Corners. Each tree includes an ornament listing the adopter, event sponsors and a QR code to the Trim a Tree @ Los Altos map, marking each holiday tree’s location.

Scouting news: Troop 75, Kiwanis donate to charity

Published: 09 December 2020 The Kiwanis Club of Los Altos recently donated $1,500 to a charity in Boy Scout Troop 75’s name in appreciation of the troop’s decade-plus of supporting Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot sales and fundraising. The troop chose Stephen & Ayesha Curry s EAT. LEARN. PLAY. as the charity. Over the years, Troop 75 Scouts have spent hundreds of hours selling trees, sweeping, setting up and tearing down the tree lot. This year, the Scouts were not able to volunteer in person but continue to help the Kiwanis Club by providing tree delivery service to homes in Los Altos and surrounding areas. According to Troop 75 parent volunteer Angela Hum Kawahara, a single, elderly woman who ordered a tree last week from the Kiwanis lot was so grateful, she tipped the Troop 75 Scout $20. In turn, the Scout donated that tip to the Kiwanis Club.
