In a renewed endeavour to wrench back the spotlight on themselves, agitating farmers are holding Rail Roko to infuse greater vigour into their movement. A Mahapanchayat of farmers is also being organised at Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
Considering the acute politicisation of the first extremely prolonged farmers’ sit-in on Delhi borders, the movement has grown out of its initial intended avatar of protesting the three farms laws that the Centre had enacted through the ordinance route.

As the farmers agitation enters Day 83, we go down the memory lane when Delhi witnessed a similar protest some 40 years ago. On February 17, 1981 lakhs of farmers from Delhi along with farmers from all over the country, mainly from neighbouring states gathered in the national capital. The gathering virtually paralysed normal life in the city.
