Farmers devise a new way of protest during the Monsoon session of Parliament: This is what they plan to do PTI
New Delhi: Farmers’ union said Tuesday evening they will hold a ‘Kisan Parliament’ at Jantar Mantar during the ongoing Monsoon session. The farmers’ union will organise the ‘parliament’ everyday from July 22 and 200 protesters will go there from the Singhu border. After a meeting with Delhi Police officials earlier in the day, a farmers’ union leader said they will hold peaceful demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. They will continue to demand for the scrapping of the agri laws. However, no protester will go to Parliament where the monsoon session is underway.
On Wednesday, the farmers were granted permission by the Delhi government to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar. Though, the the protesters are not allowed to go near the Parliament. “It has not given written permission to the farmers so far to gather near Parliament,” Delhi police said in a statement.
Earlier, the farmers unions had said they will hold a Kisan Parliament at Jantar Mantar during the Monsoon Session and 200 protesters from the Singhu border will attend it every day from July 22.
The farmers were advised to observe COVID-appropriate behaviour and social distancing.
“When police asked us to reduce the number of protesters, we told them to focus on the law and order situation and also gave an assurance that the protest will be peaceful,” said Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh National President Shiv Kumar Kakka told ANI.
