and also with us, kirsten hagland. let me start with you. draw from the president s twitter feed, something he tweeted out this morning. he said the fake news refuses to talk about how big and how strong our base is. they show fake polls just like they report fake news despite only negative reporting, we re doing well. nobody is going to beat us. make america great again. i suppose with apapalologies t n meghan trainor, how much is it all about the base? his tweets are always funny, but that one particularly so. his base is strong, but it s small and shrinking. wuj thing we have seen in the last couple elections in alabama and new jersey, and that s honestly as a young person who cares about the future of the gop, i m terrified we re not going to have a party in less than ten years because of the kind of trumpism that he is and has continued to promote and
persecution from the deep state of the liberal media or whatever. but then you ve also got people starting to get really angry and say, no, we really care about that. we don t want russia or any foreign government to have this influence in our democracy so you better stand up against this man. so that s what s going to remain to be seen the next six months. we should all understand that the way these legal things take, they take a long time so we ll have a long time to digest this and so will republican members of the house and senate. and i want to ask this next question of both you and marjorie. it s about jared kushner. i ll let you go first, kirsten, because the gop member here. focus on jared kushner and the russia investigation. is he too much of a liability at the white house at this point? i mean yes, of course. he and several other members who are under investigation who have been mentioned who have been making statements to the media, donald trump jr. included are, howeve
stepped down. and you can say that what nixon did in terms of obstruction is somewhat similar to what the allegations are here. but it s a different time. there s more polarization. you can t be sure how anybody is going to vote on this stuff. it remains to see how the evidence plays out. what s in the atmosphere, kirsten, when it comes to impeachment? is that something that s being resurrected by all of this? it sort of went quiet for a while, the concept. no, it s definitely there. and you know what i think getting into the politics of all of this, it s a really interesting time in the republican party because everyone across the board, members of the house and the senate, are trying to decide right now how politically toxic all of this investigation, everything surrounding the white house will be in the midterms in 2018 and for them personally in their district and in their state. on the one hand they see very fiery constituents who will stick with this president no matter what.
knew michael flynn lied to the fbi, yet trump then tried to influence or stop the fbi investigation on flynn. so what do you think of that line of thinking? i think he s right. i think it strengthens the case. i think the obstruction case is there. the question is, again, will the president be indicted. i don t think so. will the report to congress lay out the obstruction case? maybe, probably if there s clear-cut involvement like there appears to be. this is an element that strengthens that obstruction case, but it was pretty strong going in. but it s a pretty shocking admission by the president. okay. ed, kirsten and mongarjorie, it always good to talk to all three of you. thank you for joining me on this saturday. coming up, is the republican tax cut a trillion and a half dollar gamble on growth? i ve got plenty of questions for
