This week at the Kirksville Thousand Hills Rotary Club meeting, it was their monthly community service project. Members put together Birthday Bags for clients at Preferred Family. The bags include dental hygiene, socks, throw blankets and more. Terry Miller (pictured) spearheaded the project. The club put together birthday bags for both the men and women there. The Kirksville-Thousand Hills Rotary Club meets on Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. in the Kirksville Aquatic Center meeting room, 801 E. Mill Street. The Kirksville-Thousand Hills Rotary Club recently donated $600 to the Rotary District 6040 Shoes for Orphan Souls campaign. Donations of cash, new shoes and socks are delivered to Buckner International, based in Dallas, Texas. Buckner distributes the shoes and socks to children of all ages in orphanages around the world. The shoes and socks contribute to better health, education, and self esteem. Over the 20-plus years that the program has been going in Northeast Missouri, area Rotary Club members and friends have purchased and donated over 400,000 pairs of shoes.
Kirksville-Thousand Hills Rotary Club members recently learned about the "Inspire Hope" campaign from Carolyn Chrisman and Krista Garth. Complete Family Medicine, a service of Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, is raising funds for a Cancer Patient Assistance Fund through this campaign. The "Inspire Hope" campaign will assist patients and their families with care kits needed for travel and treatment to bridge the gap until local radiation treatment is available.
The Adair County Ambulance District (ACAD) recently hosted members of the Kirksville-Thousand Hills Rotary Club for their weekly meeting. ACAD personnel provided information to the members on stroke awareness, CPR, and first aid for bleeding wounds. The Rotary members were able to ask questions and get a hands-on feel for administering aid using ACAD training equipment. The ACAD professionals providing the information were Kat Probst, chief executive officer of ACAD, Bill Peterson, chief medical officer, and Jason Moss, lead training instructor. The Rotary Club of Kirksville-Thousand Hills meets on Thursdays at 7 a.m. at the Kirksville Aquatic Center, 801 E. Mill Street. The Thousand Hills Rotary Club awarded two Kirksville High School students the Top Tech Award. Wyatt Pinson and Ally Easdale both received $1,000 to assist with furthering their education. Pinson is in AG and Auto Tech and is planning on attending Sydenstricker Academy after graduation. Easdale is in Teaching Careers and plans to attend William Jewel after graduation. Pinson and his mother, Jessie Pinson, along with Easdale and her father, Mark Easdale, attended the Thousand-Hills Rotary Club meeting and club President Marilyn Romine presented the awards to the two students.
