They extorted Rs 1.43 cr from complainant; sent to police custody till July 25
A gang of five people, of which four are women, allegedly kidnapped a 45-year-old techie and extorted Rs 1.43 crore from her.
Viman Nagar police on Wednesday arrested all five in a illegal money-lending case and produced them before the court. All the accused were sent to police custody till Sunday. This is for the first time that Pune police have taken action against four women under the provisions of the Maharashtra Money-Lending (Regulation) Act, 2014.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (
JMFC) on Wednesday rejected bail applications of all five accused, who were arrested for allegedly misappropriating commercial sex workers’ (CSW) funds granted by the state government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society programme officer Prasad Sonawane, who is the prime accused in the case, is still absconding.
The court rejected the bail of Gauri Gurung (32) of Balaji Nagar, Savita Lashkare (26) and Sarika Lashkare (30) of Yerawada, all of whom were employees of the Pune-based NGO Kayakalpa, as well as Amol Mali (25) of Balaji Nagar and Mahesh Ghadsing (26) of Ganeshkhind Road. They were arrested on May 13 and remanded in police custody, after which they were sent to magistrate’s custody. They then filed bail applications on

Goon’s wife in net for cop’s murder

A twist in the investigation of the murder of
police constable Sameer Sayyad has revealed that wife of notorious criminal Pravin Mahajan (34) was present at the spot when the crime took place. When
police arrested Mahajan, she escaped the police scanner and fled to
Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. The police suspect her role and therefore, have sought extension in Pravin’s police custody on Thursday.
A squad from
Faraskhana police station (PS) had also travelled to Ghaziabad, in search of Pravin’s wife Kalpana on March 11. Police brought her to Pune and interrogated in connection with the murder.
