The Judicial Magistrate First Class (
JMFC) on Wednesday rejected bail applications of all five accused, who were arrested for allegedly misappropriating commercial sex workers’ (CSW) funds granted by the state government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society programme officer Prasad Sonawane, who is the prime accused in the case, is still absconding.
The court rejected the bail of Gauri Gurung (32) of Balaji Nagar, Savita Lashkare (26) and Sarika Lashkare (30) of Yerawada, all of whom were employees of the Pune-based NGO Kayakalpa, as well as Amol Mali (25) of Balaji Nagar and Mahesh Ghadsing (26) of Ganeshkhind Road. They were arrested on May 13 and remanded in police custody, after which they were sent to magistrate’s custody. They then filed bail applications on various grounds.
