Taipei, Dec. 20 (CNA) Commercial lease rates in three major shopping districts in Taipei are spiraling lower amid a steep decline in foreign visitors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to local business associations.
Overseas visitor arrivals were down 86 percent in the first 10 months of the year, and the loss of 8.4 million tourists to Taiwan has dealt a particularly heavy blow to some of the more popular places in Taipei for tourists to hang out.

Taipei, Dec. 13 (CNA) Ice Monster, a chain store in Taipei that sells shaved ice desserts, said Sunday that it was temporarily closing its shop on Yongkang Street because of a slowdown in business since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Yongkang store, the first in the chain, will be closed temporarily by the end of the year, but those in Songgao Road and the Ximending area Ximen will remain open, the company said in a statement.
Ice Monster, which is famous for its signature mango ice desserts, first opened on Yongkang Street in 1997, then it moved to Zhongxiao East Road in 2012 and back to Yongkang in April 2019.
