Canton Central proposing $27 5 million capital project

CANTON — Voters will be asked to consider four propositions on the Canton Central School District ballot in May, including a $27.5 million, multi-year major overhaul of district facilities. The Board of Education during its March 4 meeting approved the capital project and transportation propositions, with finalization of the 2021-22 district budget proposition and the list of BOE candidates pending. The district’s Facilities Committee, comprised of Director of Operations Scott J. Sanderson, Superintendent Ronald P. Burke, Business Manager Denise J. Folsom and three Board of Education members, hosted a virtual community forum last week with staff from King & King Architects, Syracuse, contracted for design work.

Rome Health to build $13 1 million Physician Center on main campus

Observer-Dispatch As Rome Memorial Hospital adopts Rome Health as its new name, the healthcare system is preparing to embark upon a $13.1 million capital project to create a new Physician Center on its main campus at 1500 N. James St., Rome, announced President/Chief Executive Officer Mark Murphy on Tuesday. Primary and specialty care clinics are currently scattered across multiple locations within 2 miles of the hospital.  “Bringing them together on the hospital’s main campus will provide greater convenience for patients with the proximity of diagnostic testing and pharmacy in a single location,” Murphy said. “The new Physician Center will provide one stop for your care for enhanced access and convenience. Primary care and specialty physicians, comprehensive diagnostic testing, lab tests and pharmacy services will all be available in one location.”

Built in 1891, Duck s Nest is the second-oldest residential structure on the island

Marie Penny Special to the Daily News Editor s note: Each month this season, we will publish a column from the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach featuring a landmarked property. With its fish-scale scalloped shingles and pointed finials atop each gable, Duck’s Nest conjures up the Victorian era. Viewed from Lake Trail, it may appear to be a charming house from the turn of the 20th century. But it also has a fascinating history, which includes weathering hurricanes, architectural styles, and the development of Palm Beach. The house gets its name from the ducks that roosted on the extensive freshwater marsh, now filled in, which were formerly located east of the building. It’s hard to imagine, but at the time the only way to access this house was by boat via Lake Worth (now referred to as the Intracoastal Waterway).
