3,012 hits during his 22 seasons with the team, 1876-97.
Jimmy Ryan, a longtime teammate of Anson s, left the team after 1900 with
2,084 hits. That ranked him second, a position he maintained until 1946, when Stan Hack raised his total to
2,128.
A year earlier, Hack had become the leader among players whose careers began in or after 1901, the start of the Modern Era.
After 1946, Hack led Gabby Harnett, runnerup among the moderns by 261 hits.
Only 15 Cubs had produced at least
1,000 hits since 1901. Among them were 2 active players: Phil Cavarretta, No. 7 with 1,429, and Bill Nicholson, No. 14, with 1,075.
25 For 25: Chicago Cubs 1920-1944 By Solanus on Mar 12, 2021, 8:27am CST 1
I am back with another set of 25 For 25 teams, this time for the years 1920-1944. This is the fourth set that I have published this cycle, starting with 1995-2019 and continuing through 1970-1994 & 1945-1969 (I will post squads for 1895-1919 after I get done with these); if you are interested in those, you can view them here.
Basically the same rules as before: 25 players, 25 seasons, one player from each season, no more or less; each player can be chosen for a team once (not multiple times in a single era or multiple eras as listed above); the player will be chosen at the position that he played the most that season (outfielders use combined outfield games; starting pitchers have as many or more starts as relief appearances); two players each for C/1B/2B/3B/SS, six outfielders, six starters, & three relievers (pitcher distribution is a departure from later eras (5S/4R), as it was less common

4 consecutive games twice.
On Wednesday, June 16, 1968, they lost at Atlanta, 1-0. After a day off, they failed to score in an entire weekend series at St. Louis, falling by scores of 1-0, 4-0 and 1-0.
They made 8 and 5 hits in the pair of 1-run losses. In the middle game, Steve Carlton surrendered only a fourth-inning, leadoff single to Glenn Beckert, after which Billy Williams immediately hit into a double play. The Cubs only other runner was a hit batsman, as Carlton faced only 28 batters.
Billy Williams unique 4-hit game By JohnW53 on Feb 19, 2021, 4:40am CST +
While batting .290/.361/.492, Williams made
2,510 hits.
Thirty times, he had 4 in a game, including 8 in which he went 4 for 4.
Twice, both in 1969, all 4 of his hits were for extra bases.
On Wednesday, April 9, in the second game of the season, Williams smacked 2 doubles, walked, then smacked 2 more doubles, as the Cubs thumped the visiting Phillies, 11-3.
It was a different story when he did it again, on Friday, Sept. 5, in the opener of a weekend series against the Pirates at Wrigley Field.

STRANDED TWICE, CIRCLED TWICE
After Steve Blass retired the first 2 Cubs, Williams doubled to center field. Ernie Banks then popped up to end the inning.
