FEBRUARY 17, 2011 – Nearly 30 people enjoyed the inaugural breakfast at the Two Bucks Bar and Grill on Main Street in Gays Mills. Owners, Kim Kerr, Karen Easton and Mark Curnow are using the site that was the former Red Apple Inn. The new menu will feature pies, which were a staple of the popular former restaurant… The senior citizens meal site at TaZee’s Wonder Bar in Soldiers Grove held its annual Valentine’s Day King and Queen Election last Monday. This year’s winners are King Earl Cech and Queen Elinor Nelson.

FEBRUARY 10, 2011 – A photo taken at Mt. Zion Pub shows letters sprouting from the snow that spell, ‘Go Pack’ a testament to the fervor and fun of Packer fever… Viroqua Community Theatre searches for a director for their upcoming production of Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man” which will be performed at the historic downtown Temple Theatre in July.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
FEBRUARY 8, 2001 – Eastman’s orange village dump truck loaded with flames Wednesday afternoon as it traveled on Highway 27. Village employee Greg Mara was driving the truck when smoke started pouring up through the floorboard. Ultimately, the 1990 International truck became fully engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown according to the report… A

FEBRUARY 3, 2011 – A pickup truck driven by James Crowley of Lyndon Station collided with a snowmobile operated by Jacob DeWitt, 12, on Highway 131 near Ontario. The youth who was wearing a helmet and protective boots sustained multiple injures to the pelvic area and lower extremities and was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital by ambulance… Charlie Heisz is pictured snowboarding during a big sledding party on Aspen Road last Saturday.

JANUARY 20, 2011 – An additional Community Development Block Grant of $2.5 million for the flood recovery effort in Gays Mills was approved by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Officials working with Gays Mills had lobbied the Wisconsin Department of Commerce for additional funding after a major grant for the flood recovery was significantly reduced from the anticipated amount. The reduced funding had caused CouleeCap, the non-profit agency assisting the village with replacing housing, to reduce the number of houses they intended to build from 24 to eight… The Viroqua-Cashton-North Crawford gymnastics team got their first win on the road against Reedsburg.

JANUARY 13, 2011 – The Soldiers Grove Village Board decided to proceed with a library expansion by pursuing the acquisition of the adjoining pharmacy. The Solar Town Pharmacy currently owned by Vernon Memorial Healthcare, is planning on moving to a nearby remodeled building near the medical clinic… Phinehas Robert Dudgeon is the Vernon Memorial Healthcare 2011 New Year’s Baby. Phinehas is the son of Lara and Josh Dudgeon of Gays Mills. Area grandparents are Siguard and Marsha Chestelson and Richard and Carol Dudgeon.
