As Mackey’s fiancée, Kiara Love, told the officer he had the wrong man, the officer led Mackey out of the food court.
She was right: the officer arrested the wrong man at the Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach – prompting the Virginia Beach Police Department to issue Mackey a public apology at a Monday press conference, 13News Now reports.

An investigation has been launched after a black man was put into handcuffs while he was dining with his family in a Virginia Beach mall.
According to reports, the man has been identified as
Jamar Mackey. He was in the food court of the Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach when a police officer rolled up on him and put him in handcuffs while he was eating with his family. The detainment was caught on video and has gone viral:
Police were seen mistakenly taking a Virginia man into custody in a viral video
The man was handcuffed and then escorted out of a mall by police officers
Outside, police realized they had the wrong person and released the man
They then explained that their actions had been prompted by a description of a suspect using stolen credit cards
The Virginia Beach Police Department said it was investigating the incident
