Police: Newport News 3-month-old boy reportedly abducted by babysitter found safe in Chesterfield; suspect in custody

AMBER Alert was issued Thursday By: Web Staff and last updated 2021-02-04 22:30:49-05 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department says the 3-month-old boy who was reported missing Thursday morning has been found safe. In an update during a press conference Thursday night, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said the child, Jiraiya Cherry, was found in Chesterfield. Around 10:19 a.m. Thursday, police responded to the 13300 block of Preakness Drive in reference to a missing child. Jiraiya was reportedly abducted by an unknown babysitter. Shortly after Newport News Police sent out their release, Virginia State Police and the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse issued an AMBER Alert for Jiraiya around 5 p.m.
