Western Cape Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz says he s pleased with the progress made by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in relation to the Khayelitsha murders that took place last weekend. Three suspects appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with a spate of shootings in Khayelitsha that left 13 people dead. One further suspect appeared in court on Thursday.

Provincial integrated team arrested suspect for dealing in dagga in Harare

On Friday 2021-02-12 at about 21:00, the Provincial Integrated Team members operating in the Harare area arrested a 30-year-old suspect for the possession of dagga. The members were conducting stop and search operations in Harare, when they received information of drugs being sold at premises in Mqha Street, Kuyasa, Harare. On arrival at the mentioned address they searched and found dagga to the value of R5000 plus an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of the suspect’s drug trade. The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday 2021-02-15 on the mentioned charges.

During an intelligence-driven operation in Khayelitsha, earlier today members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team arrested an 18-year-old man for dealing in drugs. The members followed up on information on a suspect who was allegedly selling mandrax for a leading gang grouping and who is also involved in extortion incidents in the same area. They searched the premises and found 2 800 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R300 000-00. The suspect is due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Thursday 2020-12-24. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Yolisa Matakata commended the members for their efforts to bring this young drug dealer to justice and she thanked the community members who reported criminals.
