Offense vs Rutgers starts at 1:00 Was Michigan sick during this game? "The loud Rutgers fans" is an uttered phrase. JJ completed less than half of his passes, some of them were drops but some were bad throws. Why isn't Michigan throwing more fades? Michigan threw contested throws in this game and Michigan completed almost none of them, b
This series is a work-in-progress glossary of football concepts we tend to talk about in these pages. Previously: Offensive concepts: RPOs, high-low, snag, mesh, covered/ineligible receivers, Duo, zone vs gap blocking, zone stretch, split zone, pin and pull, inverted veer, reach block, kickout block, wham block, Y banana play, TRAIN, the run & shoot Defensive concepts: The 3-3-5, Contain & lane integrity, force player, hybrid space player, no YOU’RE a 3-4!, scrape exchange, Tampa 2, Saban-style pattern-matching, match quarters, Dantonio’s quarters, Don Brown’s 4-DL packages and 3-DL packages, Bear Special Teams: Spread punt vs NFL-style So counter trey and its counter, BASH, are a pair of offensive concepts we're going to see more of, possibly from and certainly against Michigan. While things like it were part of the Single Wing offenses of the early 20th century, Tom Osborne's Nebraska teams really made Counter Trey a staple of power running. Michigan ran a bun
[Patrick Barron] 9/1/2018 – Michigan 17, Notre Dame 24 – 0-1 Ah so it's this bit again. The bit where some people pick up on a factoid and yell about it a lot and other people yell at them about it. The bit where everyone's mad and trying to take it out on someone. I mean, I get it. Any properly scientific assessment of which football program it is the least fun to be a fan of will find a way to exclude Kansas for not actually being a football program and stick Michigan at the top. Nobody got into this to fight about the level of doomed we are every 3-4 years, never beat anyone of consequence, etc. But I don't want to do it again. I've done this three times before, once per coaching era this blog has seen the end of, and I've done all the stuff already: preaching patience, gallows humor, being legitimately angry, calling for various heads, writing about mattresses. I don't really feel like doing it all over again. I don't care to evaluate the prec
TECHNICAL NOTES: I believe I've fixed the audio offset issue. FORMATION NOTES: Michigan didn't do anything particularly unusual. A reminder for chart aficionados: This gets listed as "Gun TTB", for "trips tight bunch." Usually this is two tight ends so far this year but in the past it has been one TE and a couple WRs. "Gun TTE" is "twins twin TE", with two WRs to one side of the formation and two inline TEs. Hawaii was a 4-3 with few surprises or alterations. SUBSTITUTION NOTES: You probably do not need to be told that it was JJ/Cade/Warren at QB. Regular rotation at RB, with Stokes clearly third, Dunlap fourth, and then walk-ons. We still do not have any short yardage carries to evaluate what the deal is there, but it seems unlikely it's going to be anyone but Corum. WR was the usual blender with Bell/Johnson/Wilson at the top and then Various Artists after. Hibner and Bredeson got some first-team time at TE behind the three start
NOTE: Yes, I'm aware that Victor Viramontes committed last night, too. That post is coming up later. Dudley (MA) Shepherd Hill tight end Sean McKeon became the 13th commit of the 2016 class and the seventh this month alone after informing the coaches of his decision following a strong showing at Michigan's camp today, per Sam Webb. . @Mckeon Sean was a camp standout today. Impressed in drills with @JayHarbaugh @CoachJohnBaxter & @CoachDrev. @CoachJim4UM closed the deal Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) June 15, 2015 McKeon is the first tight end commit in the class. He chose the Wolverines over fellow finalists Syracuse, Pitt, Boston College, and Virginia.
