Ludhiana: Sahir was Ludhianvi, but the city yet to immortalise him, feel experts | Ludhiana News

Sahir Ludhianvi LUDHIANA: Even as thousands will celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of legendary poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi on Monday, a group dedicated to him feels his memory is fading in his native district. Abdul Hayee, known by his takhallus (pen name), Sahir Ludhianvi, was born in Ludhiana on March 1921 and died in Mumbai on October 25, 1980. “For decades, we have been holding functions, seminars and mushaira on Sahir Sahib’s birth anniversary. We could not hold the function last year due to the Covid situation and are not sure if it can be held this year too. However, with functions on his birth anniversary being held in Canada and Pakistan, the government here should have also organised some event,” said Dr Kewal Dhir, chairman, Adeeb International. He also pointed out that there is no memorial in the name of Sahir Ludhianvi in Ludhiana. Dhir was the keynote speaker at a function held in Canada’s Fraser University in Sahir’s honour on Sunday.
