Three friends on a Christmas night out in Ballymote who were all subsequently arrested by gardaí were before Sligo Circuit Court charged with engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour. The court heard one man was injured and had to be brought to hospital by ambulance. Gerard Pilkington (56), of Kilshalvey, Gurteen, Co Sligo, Kevin Muldoon (52), of 25, Castleburn, Ballymote and Thomas Barrett (49), of Ballysungahan, Sooey, Co Sligo were charged with the offence on December 23, 2019 at Grattan Street, Ballymote, Co Sligo. All three had earlier pleaded guilty, the court heard. Judge Sinead Ní Chúlacháín was delivered sentencing in the case at Sligo Circuit Court on Thursday last. Mayor Noah Blom was elected to the dais in 2020. Blom was named mayor pro tem for 2021. Mayor Pro Tem Will O'Neill was mayor in 2020 and was reelected to the dais that same year.
The new shelter, which will be on 20282 Riverside Drive is the result of five years' worth of fundraising by the Friends of the Newport Beach Animal Shelter.
Barricades were initially installed in November 2021 and removed in June by the city, but no action has since been taken to address ongoing concerns about traffic.
