A local high school student who dreams of becoming a diplomat, took a trip to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Pioneer Valley High School Junior Kaleolani 'Kale' Ilac was granted his wish of becoming a diplomat for a day when Make-A-Wish Foundation took him and his family to the United Nations headquarters in New York.

During last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, district leaders also named two new principals and an assortment of assistant principals to fill vacancies.
Righetti High School Principal Karen Rotondi is the district’s new director of teaching and learning, and Delta High School Principal Sal Reynoso is the new director of certificated human resources. Mike Stockton, assistant prinicipal at Pioneer Valley High School, will become the new director of instructional technology.
The trio will start the new district-level jobs July 1.
Meanwhile, Ted Lyon, currently an assistant principal at Righetti, will be the new RHS principal while Nate Maas, director of student services at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, will take over as the new Delta High principal.
The last six members of the Santa Barbara County Independent Redistricting Commission were selected Monday by the initial five members after a last-minute substitution in the proposed slate to increase Latino representation.
Commissioners unanimously approved the final slate even though the vote to substitute Benjamin Olmedo, who did not receive a vote of recommendation in determining the initial slate, for Kevin Ilac, who had received four votes of recommendation.
Interim Chairman and 5th District Commissioner Glenn Morris cast the dissenting vote to substitute Olmedo for Ilac on the list of six members to bring the commission up to its full complement of 11.
