Stacey a man is arrested after West Des Moines police say he intentionally set a woman on fire. Kccis Mark Tauscheck just back from West Des Moines. Mark true, this is hard to believe. 58yearold john moore, jr. Is charged with willful injury causing bodily injury. Officers say they were called to 127 8th street around 6 20 this morning in West Des Moines on a report of a person who had been burned. They say they found 54yearold Jackie Gilbert with burns on her upper body. She apparently waited almost 24 hours to report this. Gilbert told police she had been arguing with moore thursday morning, when he threw an unknown flammable substance on her and then set her on fire. Sgt. Kock this is a first for me. But i dont know i have ever heard of that before, someone intentionally lighting someone else on fire. Mark gilbert was taken to a hospital. Polk county jail. 61yearold robert scarbrough, to stop, just before police say he picked up the student by his coat and struck him in the face. He was being a little bit disrespectful to the bus driver but thats no reason to , start throwing punches. Kim video then shows scarbrough push the student to the floor. We were shocked and then just immediately after, we were angry. Kim 9th graders madison cherry and Savannah Shelley were on the bus when it happened. They say some students were terrified, some even in tears, as they watched it all unfold. I hate bullying in general so seeing a guy bullying a kid , like that was terrible. Kim when scarbrough stopped, students got off the bus and flagged down an officer. The student involved in the alleged assault was treated in an ambulance for head pain. Johnston schools spokesperson Laura Sprague says scarbrough made a very poor decision and she understands why some students may be unsettled by what they saw. Jason r phil roeder with Des Moines Public Schools says while this is unprecedented he says they may have narrowed down the culprit. The food was brought from outside the district so it wasnt the School Districts food and Nutrition Department that prepared it.
