Overall, our activity took a hit in 2020 mostly due to the pandemic. No surprises there. A big chunk of our traffic stems from consumers looking up beers before purchasing them and our beer fests (all postponed) generate a lot of traffic and engagement. Restrictions led to less people going out, spending less, and changing their purchasing habits. We also saw some regional and national brewers pull back from markets and reduce new releases, allowing them to focus on growing their home markets and core brands again.
Lion Brewery in Wilkes-Barre recently took home two first place awards in the third annual Pennsylvania Farm Show Beer Competition, the state Department of Agriculture announced Friday.
The breweryâs Lionshead Pilsner won first place in the light lagers and ales contest. In that competition, the Old Mauch Chunk Lager by the Conyngham Brewing Company in Conyngham Borough placed third.
Lion Breweryâs Lionshead Double IPA won first place in the India pale ale category, 7.5% alcohol by volume and above.
Conyngham Brewing Company won the kettle sour category with Blackberry Rosemary Sour Ale.
The competition featured 22 craft breweries in Pennsylvania that sent beers to the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Judging occurred in November in private.
