Taoiseach Micheal Martin has expressed confidence the health service will have a sufficient number of medical professionals to administer Covid-19 vaccines, after significant numbers of retired health professionals offered assistance .
“I think we are in a confident position in terms of our capacity to vaccinate a critical mass of the population over the next number of months . At the end of quarter one , we should have about 1.1 million vaccines doses administered,” he said.

A number of opposition TD have expressed concern about the Government s Covid-19 vaccination strategy.
Sinn Féin s health spokesperson David Cullinane said that there was a lack of detail around the plan and he said there were issues around staffing levels and infrastructure.
Social Democrats co-leader Róisín Shortall said she was worried about the number of vaccinators that are available to the HSE.
Their comments follow a briefing with experts involved in coordinating mass inoculations.
John Cremin received the vaccination under a roll-out programme organised by HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare.
A resident of St Columbanus Community Hospital in Killarney for the past seven years, Mr Cremin said he was delighted as a proud Corkman to receive the first vaccine administered in Kerry.
The father of four, who loves music and card playing, which he has sadly missed in recent times, urged everyone to avail of the vaccine when they can.
Mr Cremin was the first of 100 residents and 200 staff at the HSE residential facility in Killarney to receive the vaccine today under the programme.
