Two recent Controlled Purchase Operations conducted at licensed premises throughout Northland by Northland DHB and NZ Police staff concluded in a varied result.
The operations saw underage volunteers, aged 16 and 17 years, attempt to purchase alcohol from licensed premises in the Bay of Islands and Whangarei regions.
A pleasing result from the Far North operation with NO sales from the 14 outlets tested, however ONE sale resulted from the 19 outlets tested in the Whangarei area. This result was particularly disappointing as it is the second time this premises has sold alcohol to a minor.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with murder after a fatal stabbing at a Northland pub last night. The RoadRunner Tavern on State Highway 11 in Opua. Source: 1 NEWS
At around 11pm last night, emergency services were called to the RoadRunner Tavern on Opua Paihia Main Road, State Highway 11, in Opua.
Officers found a 22-year-old man outside with critical stab wounds and despite efforts from ambulance staff, he died on the way to hospital.
Police confirmed the 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder and he s expected to appear in Whangārei Youth Court this afternoon.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a man died from stab wounds in Northland s Bay of Islands. A 22-year-old man died after the incident near the Roadrunner Tavern, between Paihia and Opua, at about 11pm on Thursday. Police found the man on the ground with critical stab wounds, and he died on the way to hospital despite efforts from St John staff.
